A: Thank you for asking! Our in-water program, Dolphin Discovery has a height requirement of 4'6" (54"), not an age requirement. Please check the program description and additional requirements on the "Programs" tab on this page!

Mrs Tina Kaye asked :We are planning on a2 night stay in hawks key January 17-19 11 ,we would love 2swim with the dolphins. Is this poss in January

Q: Hi we are the Kaye Family from England ,We are planing to come to Hawks cay,January 17-19 2011 ,We would all Love to Swim with Dophins. Is it possible in January or is the weather against us.Thanks Tina Kaye

A: Hello Kaye family from England! It is certainly possible to play, splash and swim with our dolphins in January. It might be cold (by our Floridian standards), but how cold will depend on how windy it is! The average water temperature is around the mid 60's (20 C) and high air temperatures are around the mid 70's (24C). That being said, we have had many people meet our dolphins in the colder months, and they still appreciate our very special Dolphin Discovery interaction program. We provide short wetsuits free of charge, but you also have the option of renting a long wetsuit at the marina. And you can also go and jump into the hot tub after your program! Please look at the description and requirements for the program on the "Programs" tab on this page. Thank you for asking!

The price depends on the type of program the children want to do, as long as they meet the necessary requirements: height of 4'6" for the Dolphin Discovery program and 6 years or up to do the Dockside Dolphins program (if they are 5 or under, they may do Dockside Dolphins accompanied by a paying adult). Please take a look at the "PROGRAMS" tab on this page for program descriptions, additional requirements, prices and how to make reservations. Sharon Kearns asked :Can you swim with the dolphins?

Q: Do you have a program that allows us to swim with the dolphins?

A: Our Dolphin Discovery program focuses on an up close and personal, very hands on encounter. A good portion of the program occurs in waist deep water, which allows the trainers to bring the dolphins very close to our guests, in a safe and comfortable manner - the dolphins are literally in your lap! There are many opportunities to touch and feed the dolphins, assist with special behaviors, hug, and receive a special kiss from them! Part of the encounter includes swimming into the dolphins' lagoon. You will be treading water alongside the trainer and the dolphins for some special fun and splashy behaviors. You may also choose to swim into the lagoon for your own special flipper shake with one of our dolphins. For safety reasons, we do not allow our guests to swim far away with the dolphins, or allow the dolphins to either tow or push the guests through the water. Our program is designed to be fun, friendly and comfortable to all our customers, regardless of their age, fitness level or swimming ability. There is, among others, a height requirement of 4'6" for this program. Please see additional requirements on the "Programs" tab of this webpage. Thank you for asking!

Onna asked :Dolphin connetion

Q: the captive dolphins in the Dolphin Connection, were they caught from the wild or were they born in captivity? if so, are they registered in the U.S. marine mammal repository?

A: The Dolphin Connection has not and does not collect dolphins from the wild. Since the 1990’s, our lagoon has housed a young and vibrant group of breeding dolphins that were acquired from existing zoological facilities, and we had the joy and privilege of raising nine successful dolphin calves here. In more recent years, we have begun housing older dolphins – having three currently in their mid to late 30’s - that are enjoying their retirement years in our lagoon. All of our animals are listed with the U.S. National Marine Fisheries Service marine mammal inventory, which is updated annually.

Amanda Frauchiger asked :Dolphin Discovery

Q: I have 2 Kids (10 and 8 yers) who would like to do the Dolphin Discovery. The Kids language is german but one of the parent, who speaks english, will be there to watch and translate - but not participate. IS THAT POSSIBLE? Thank you very much for your answer. Regards Amanda Frauchiger Kuoni Travel Ltd Switzerland

A: Hello Amanda! Thank you for your enquiry. Unfortunately, the parents will not be allowed onto the docks unless they are participating in the program. They can watch from the observation deck overlooking the lagoon, but that is not close enough for translation. In this scenario, we recommend that at least one of the parents actually sign up and do the program with the children. Please bear in mind that this is for safety reasons, in order to ensure that the participants can follow directions provided by our trainers while the interaction is taking place. I would also have the parents double check whether the 8 year old is actually 4 feet six inches tall (138 centimetres) - the height requirement is also a safety concern! Another alternative would for the children to participate in our Dockside Dolphins program - this dry program is a lot of fun, and the parents would not need to sign up for it!

Sara Roberts asked :Dolphin Connection

Q: Can a 12 year old do the dolphin interaction?

A: For the Dolphin Discovery interaction, it is a height requirement, of 4 feet six inches (or 54"). If the 12 year old is that tall they can definitely participate!

Pat Snyder asked :cost of dolphin experiences

Q: I have already booked a villa and want to have one of the dolphin experiences. Please send me a list of prices and descriptions so I can select one. Can I reserve online?

Alex asked :pregnancy

Q: May a pregnant woman (second trimester) participate in the dolphin interaction in the water? If so, are there risks?

A: Hi Alex! For safety reasons, we do not allow pregnant ladies to do our in-water interaction program. We can, however, accommodate you in our Dockside Dolphins program. You can find additional information on the Programs tab, or at www.dolphinconnection.com .

Rebecca Milner asked :Internship

Unknown asked :Swim with dolphins

Q: My sister wants to 'swim with dolphins' for her birthday. she is into 'communication with animals".. would the swimming and teaching programs be a way that she could do that, or which would be better?

A: Our in water interaction program, Dolphin Discovery, would certainly provide your sister with ample opportunities to interact with our dolphins. Please see a more detailed description of our programs at www.dolphinconnection.com. Note that we don't allow guests to "ride" the dolphins - we focus on an up close and personal experience instead!

Roger BElusa asked :Price

Q: Hi, This July we are staying at the Hawks cay resort. My kids would love to spend some time with dolphins. I'm just curious about prices? BR Roger

Lauren asked :Trainer for a Day

Q: Hello, I did not see this question and would like to know alittle more than what your advertisement said. On the program trainer for the day, 3 hour encounter. How many people are with the trainer/dolphin? Do you actually swim with the dolphin? I will be in Florida and dring to Key West April 4 or 5th and would like to reserve a spot. Is that your Spring Break? Thank you, Lauren

A: Hi Lauren! You can obtain some additional information on our website: www.dolphinconnection.com , Program tab, Trainer for a Day (but read the descriptions for Discovery and Dockside too, since these are included!) There are only two, and very occasionally 3, Trainers for a Day at a time. Their trainer spends the entire morning with them. The program inculdes both Dolphin Discovery and Dockside Dolphins. For both these portions, the Trainers for a Day join other guests during the program. Additionally, their first encounter is a private session from the dry docks. The time in between the dolphin encounters is spent with the trainer, learning more about our field and participating in some of our daily duties involving animal care. The Dolphin Discovery is our in water program. A portion of it takes place on a waist deep platform, allowing for a very close up and personal hands on encounter. Our guests do swim into the lagoon with the dolphins for some special behaviors, however, for safety reasons we don't allow the animals to tow or push guests through the water. Early April is a part of our Spring Break, and I highly reccommend reservations ahead of time. Please contact 1-888-313-5749 or reservations@hawkscay.com

Jean Young asked :dolphin encounter

Q: We will be in the Keys the week before Easter. Unfortunately, we were unable to get a reservation at Hawks Cay. We have rented a house instead. Can we visit the dolphins at the docks for a fee or is it strictly limited to Hawks Cay guests? THanks ! JEan Young

A: Hello Jean! Our programs are not limited to resort guests - non guests are welcome to sign up! You may also come to the resort to simply watch the dolphins, including during training sessions or public programs. Please contact 888-313-5749 or reservations@hawkscay.com for booking. You can find out more about the programs on the "Programs" tab or at www.dolphinconnection.com .

Once the program is over, you are able to preview your photos and decide which you would like to purchase. Each photo is $16.95 plus tax. We do not offer a video service, but family members may take video from the observation deck overlooking the dolphin lagoon.

nancy asked :dolphins

Q: if you book 4 bedroom Marina villa, do you get any time with the dolphins?

A: It is necessary to sign up for dolphin programs. Please see the "Programs" tab for prices and information.

Pat Debruyne-Van Kemenaded asked :the dolphin connection

Q: Hi, we are planning a trip to the Keys in July 2010. We would like te know if we can book the dolphin connection for our family (2 adults & 2 children) by mail. We would probably stay in Hawk's cay Resort the end of July, but would like to know if we can make a reservation for the dolphin connection in front. A: Hello Nicole! Please try reservations@hawkscay.com .

Tara Baker asked :Frequency of Dolphin Visits & Pregnancy

Q: I just found this site and I'm thrilled. My husband & I are planning a "babymoon" before our first little one is born. I will be in my second trimester when we visit and I was curious about your rules for that. Also, do you get to spend time with the dolphins each day or is it a one-time deal? And is there an option to swim with them? Thank you for your time.-Tara

A: Hello Tara! Congratulatations! You can find even more details on www.dolphinconnection.com . Unfortunately, we don't allow pregnant ladies into the water with the dolphins. This is simply an additional safety precaution due to potentially slippery surfaces. Time with the dolphins is usually a one time deal, though I must say some guests sign up for more than one program! However, you can watch them throughout the day, including during sessions and programs. In your case, we would be able to accomodate you in our Dockside Dolphins program, in which you don't need to enter the water, but still have opportunities to pet, feed, play and splash with the dolphins.

Regine Wiehn & Jeanette Hever asked :Booking Swimming with the Dolphins

Q: We are guests of the Hawks Cay Resort in July 2010 and have the below questions: 1. What are the costs for swiming with the dolphins for 1 adult and 1 child (age 10)on 19 Jul 10? 2. What are the costs for a child (age 6)to see and touch the dolphins at the dry training docks on 19 Jul 10? 3. Is it recommended to pre-book the dolphins to ensure the session? Thanks for your time and have great day, Regina & Jeanette

A: Thanks for enquiring! 1. Our Dolphin Doscovery program is US$155 per person + tax. 2. Our Dockside Dolphins program is US$60 per person + tax 3. Yes! Availability is limited, so you definately want to book ahead to ensure your spots in the program. Please see the "Programs" tab for details and call 888-313-5749 or email reservations@hawkscay.com for reservations.

Michelle Vos asked :Dolphin Encounter Rules

Q: What are the rules concerning who can swim with the dolphins and under what conditions? For example, I know that some facilities will not allow interaction with the dolphins if a person is suffering from a cold or flu. More specifically, I will be in my third trimester of pregnancy when I visit the resort - will I be able to swim with the dolphins?

A: Michelle - Unfortunately one of our rules is that we do not allow pregnant ladies to enter the water with the dolphins. This is simply an extra safety precaution due to potentially wet surfaces in the proximity of the interactions areas, which additionally are reached via vertical pool ladders. We do accommodate pregnant ladies in our dry Dockside program. Thanks for enquiring!

Regine Wiehn & Jeanette Hever asked :Options & pre-booking of swimming/touching dolphins

Q: Hello, we will be hotel guests in July 2010 and like to know the below information: 1. Costs for 1 adult and 1 child (10 yrs) to swim w/dolphins? 2. Costs for 1 child (6 yrs) to touch dolphins on the dock? 3. Can or should we pre-book for Monday 19 Jul 10 to secure a session? Thank you for your time, Regine & Jeanette

A: Thank you for enquiring! Please visit the "Programs" tab for program description and cost. Prior reservations are reccommended, please contact HawksCay Resort at 888-313-5749 or email reservations@hawkscay.com .

dave asked :swimming with dolphins

Q: my sons and I (12 and 14) are coming down in April for 5 days and were interested in if we can interact and swim with the dolphins. do we need to book this in advance? what are our options?

Unkown asked :Dockside Dolphin Program

Q: Do you have to stay at resort to participate in the dolphin program? Do you have day programs?

A: You do not have to be a registered guest to participate in the program. You can obtain information about our program types and times on the "Programs" tab.

Tom Doheny asked :swimming with dolphins

Q: We would prefer to wait until we are at your resort before booking swimming with the dolphins, is that too late. Will you have any openings if we wait? We will be there 3/6 until 3/10

A: Thank you for asking! We have limited availability in order to maintain high quality programs, therefore we highly recommend booking ahead of time, since we will be busy in March.

CT asked :Dolphins

Q: Do you get to ride the dolphins?

A: Thank you for asking! This is a frequent question. For safety reasons, we don’t allow our guests to “ride” the dolphins. A portion of the program occurs in waist deep water, which allows the trainers to bring the dolphins really up close and personal for hands on opportunities for our guests. We also swim into our natural lagoon in order to experience the dolphins in their environment. While treading water, guests have opportunities for some special behaviors with the animals, both with the other participants and briefly, on their own. We find that our guests really appreciate the closeness to the animals, and the absence of taking turns for “rides” provides increased interaction opportunities for each guest.

ehenry@bluewin.ch asked :Swiming with the dolphin

Q: Good morning from Switzerland in the snow and cold !Q:we will sleep one night on July 21 to 22 July 2010 in your Hawks cay resort during our trip in Florida. Is it possible that our daugther (nearly 13)which is not speaking english attend to the programm "swiming with dolphins" on the morning of July 22, before we leave ? Thank you for your answer. If yes, we will book

A: One of the requirements for our Dolphin Discovery program is that at least one member in the party must speak and understand the English language. This is purely for safety reasons. So, if your daughter does not speak English, we recommend that an English speaking parent do the program with her. The other option would be to do our Dockside Dolphins program, for which there is no language requirement. Thank you for asking!

Unknown asked :Pets

Q: are pets allowed?

A: Pets are not allowed in the Dolphin Connection facilities. Please contact Hawks Cay Resort for their pet policy.

Mrs Andersen asked :Dolphin Discovery

Q: Hi, We're planning to come and stay at your resort this coming summer. Our kids (aged 9 and 10 - both taller than 4'6 - loves dolphins and we're interested in trying your "Dolphin Discovery" Program. If we book this program for our family (2 adults and 2 children) do we then share the dolphin with others or would it only be us and an instructor there during the course? Kind regards Mrs Andersen

A: Our Dolphin Discovery programs accomodate 8 and sometimes 10 people. For the dolphin enounter portion of the program, we split the group in half. You might either have the dolphins and trainer to yourselves, or you would be sharing with one more person. Either way, quality is outstanding - we pride ourselves on maintaining small, personal programs!

Heidi Frazier asked :My 3-year old swimming with dolphins

Q: I was really hoping my three year old could swin with the dolphins but he is definitely not 4'6". Are there any options for him, my husband, and I to swim with them together? We are coming down in January and I hate to disappoint him. Thank you!

A: So sorry we did not get to your question immediately! Unfortunately, for safety reasons, we do not allow 3 year old children to swim with the dolphins, so we would not be able to accomodate the family swimming together. However, we do have a very popular dry program, Dockside Dolphins, which families can do together. There is more information on the "Programs" tab on the webpage.

jdkujat@yahoo.com asked :Being a guest of Hawks Cay

Dolphin Fan asked :When can we watch them ?

Q: I am interested in watching dolphins , when is the best time of the year?

A: Usually you can do that all year - round.
