Sean McKenzie asked :Fly Fishing from Hawks Cay

Q: Tom, I will be staying at Hawks Cay next weekend June 24th through 26th. I am 60 and my son Alex is 26. We would love to go out into the flats or whatever to enjoy the sights and cast some lines. I have experience with fly tackle here in Vermont but never in Fla. Could we book a 1/2 day (AM) preferably Friday?

A: Sean, thanks for calling me as well. I'll see you on the dock here at Hawk's Cay, Friday at 7:00 AM. Capt. Tom

Brad Mitchell asked :Family fishing from Hawks Cay

Q: Tom, Can I book a couple of 1/2 day trips with you for my wife, daughter age 8, son age 5, and myself between Friday July 30th and Friday August 6th? We may wind up one day with kids one day with just my wife and I to fly fish. What's your calendar look like? Brad Mitchell Mobile 832-671-3805

A: Hi Brad. I still have some 1/2 day trips available for that time period. I'd recommend we do the morning half to beat the heat though. Probably the best thing to do is send me an email at flysei@aol.com or call me at (305)289-0429 and we can line things up. Tom

Keith Metzler asked :Back country/flats fishing

Q: We are staying at Hawks Cay already, May 5-12, so don't need the room charge. I would like to take my future son-in-law on a 1/2 day fishing excursion. How much would that cost, and what is your availability on Friday or Saturday morning, May 7 or 8?

A: Hi Keith. At this point I have both those mornings available, the rate would be $400 for the 1/2 day. Feel free to contact me through my email at flysei@aol.com or I can be reached at (305) 289-0429 if you would like to set up a trip. Thanks for the inquiry, Capt. Tom Seiling

Steven Morgan asked :Upcoming fishing excursion

Q: I will be at Hawks Cay resort this April 21-23 2010 and have booked a fishing excursion with Light N Up charters for me and my two daughters who are 8 and 6. I just wanted to make sure that the excursion will be tailored to account for the age of my children. I'm looking forward to meeting you and having a great afternoon fishing. Thanks.

A: Hi Steven, I get a lot of young families here at Hawks Cay, so rest assured I will tailor the trip for the age of your children. I'm looking forward to spending the afternoon of the 22nd with you and your daughters. Thanks Capt. Tom

Justin Sampere asked :Fly fishing

Q: We are about to go down to the keys and stay at Hawks Cay resort and have booked a half day trip with Capt. Jim Griffith. We were wondering if he offers fly fishing on his charters. Because i would really like to catch a tarpon on a fly rod.

A: Hi Justin. Yes we offer both Fly fishing and Spin fishing for Tarpon, and just about every other species that we target. I'll make sure Capt. Jim is aware of your request and that he has the appropriate tackle on board for your trip.

mark levasseur asked :tarpon

Q: Hi capt, I'll be staying at Hawks Cay in early april. Are there large tarpon 20 lbs or greater this time of year? Also, hows the permit action at that time ? Two species i'd love to land ! thanks... Mark

A: Hi Mark, April is a great month for Tarpon here in the Keys. The larger Tarpon in the 70 to 140+ pound range are migrating through the Keys then. We can either live bait or flyfish for them. The Permit are pretty much a year-round species with April being one of the better months to find them on the flats or on the banks in Florida Bay. It is hard to pick a better month to fish for those two species. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hawks Cay Guest asked :Tarpon Fishing in the Florida Keys

Q: Is there a better month to catch Tarpon during season?

A: I'd say that it would be hard to pick just one month as the better month to Tarpon fish here in the middle keys out of Hawk's Cay Resort. Weather you are using live bait such as Mullet or Pilchards or going after them with a Fly rod, April and May are my favorite months.
