TIPS
Wear shoes with non-marking soles (or go barefoot) - I encourage this so that you don’t markup the boat deck. Shoe marks are very difficult to remove, so prevention is the key.
Load up on sunscreen - It’s important to wear plenty of sunscreen when planning to spend prolonged periods of time exposed to the hot Caribbean sun. Sunscreen with a high SPF, a cool long sleeved shirt, a wide brimmed hat, and long pants are all highly recommended to protect your skin from the sun.
Bring polarized sunglasses - When sight-fishing the flats, it’s imperative that you wear a good pair of polarized sunglass. Polarized glasses cut down the sun’s glare and allow you to spot the fish better. Your experience will be much more enjoyable if you too can see what's going on in the water around you. Amber or vermilion colored lenses are best!
Drink lots of water - This will keep you hydrated and greatly reduce fatigue and the risk of heat stroke.
If you wish to mount your trophy - I can assist you. The taxidermist I use is Gray's Taxidermy in Pompano Beach Florida. Usually a three month delivery time is the norm.
If you want to catch fish to eat - Please let me know in advance so that I may accommodate you. There are many delicious tasting species that we can target.
QUESTIONS
How deep is the water in the Gulf of Mexico/Florida Bay? As a general rule, the depth drops one foot per mile away from shore.
What are all the foam balls floating in the water? Most are spiny lobster traps or stone crab traps.
Are their sharks around here? Yes, the Florida Keys are home to a wide variety of shark species.
What are the color changes in the water? The color of the water can depend on the type of bottom. For example, water may appear clearer over a sandy bottom than over a grassy bottom. Variations in water depth will also mark color changes.

What types of baitfish are those in the live well? Depending on what we are targeting I may have pilchards, mullet, and/or pinfish swimming around in the well.
Why do you look like a bank robber? I wear a bandana over my face for sun protection.
Why do we bow to the tarpon? By pointing the rod at the fish it gives the tarpon enough slack when it jumps to shake its head without throwing the hook.
What kind of knots do you use? The ones I tie most are the Bimini Twist, Spider Hitch, No Name Knot, and Uni Knot.
How long have you been fishing? I have been fishing for over 30 years.
How long have you been in the Keys? I have been in the Florida Keys for around ten years. I am originally from the St. Petersburg, Tampa area.
What is your favorite fish to catch? Whatever is biting! I love to catch tarpon, bonefish, permit, snapper, grouper, and more.
