About your instructor
Hello, my name is Aaron Osters, and I would like to welcome you to Hawks Cay Resort.Before moving to the Florida Keys I lived in Northeast Ohio, where I spent my free time boating and fishing on Lake Erie. I always dreamed of one day living in the Florida Keys, and in 2004 I made that dream a reality.
I grew up flying kites with my father and discovered two-line sport kites on a trip with him to Lake Erie’s Put-in-Bay Island. Soon after, I started flying two-line power kites and had people convince me that I needed to let the kite pull me on water skis. I thought they were crazy until I saw kiteboarding on TV for the first time.
After moving to the Florida Keys in 2004, I learned how to kiteboard and decided I wanted to become an instructor. I studied and received my Captain's license, Professional Air Sports Association (PASA) certification, and opened my own kiteboarding school.
Since then I have been blessed with the opportunity to spend my days kiteboarding in the Florida Keys, and my passion for the sport has grown with each ride. I am excited to have the opportunity to teach Hawks Cay guests how to kiteboard, and I look forward to spending time on the water with you during your Florida Keys vacation.
Kiteboarding is truly a wonderful and thrilling sport to learn, and I hope you give me the opportunity to share that experience with you.

Q: we will be down from Aug 5-12th. My sons is 18 and is interested in learning how to kiteboard. How is the wind at this time and do we need to book before we come down.
A: I would definitly book before you come down to save your spot in the kiteboarding pogram. We usually know if there is going to be wind or not a week in advance. The wind starts to pick up in August and gets better each month through the winter and into spring.

Q: my daughter is 16 and very physically fit. what is cost and available dates and times. She is going to be getting scuba dive certified
A: Hello, The cost for 3 hour beginner kiteboarding lesson is $300.00 . Please call for avaliable dates. The normal lesson times are 10 AM and 2PM. Call any time. Thank you for your question. Aaron 305-942-9635

Q: If there is no wind when I come down on my trip, do you also teach spearfishing?
A: I believe Dive Duck Key takes people out spearfishing and sells spearfishing gear at their shop on the dock at Hawks Cay Resort. You can check the Hawks Cay website for other fine activities that you can participate in if there is not enough wind to kite in. If you can't find what you need there please give me a ring and I will hook you up with the right person if I can't answer your questions or provide you with the gear and instruction you need. Q: Hi, nice to meet you. Im thinking to go to practice kitesurf in key west, and stay in the hotel, with my wife. I have to fly from argentina to miamo on july 9 ...the idea is to stay from 25 of july to 2 of august. Could you tell me if is there wind at this time to practice kitesurf ? Thanks in advance
A: July is one of the lighter wind months here in the Florida Keys. There is a possibiliy of having enough wind to kitesurf though. I would give it a 50/50 chance.
