Q: Do you rent boards by the hour? I am coming from Ft Lauderdale and may opt not to bring one if it is easy to rent and already on the beach. If so, what is the rate? I would probably rent a board and paddle for 90-120 minutes per day for the 3 days I am coming in late October. Thanks

A: Yes we do rent boards right from the Hawks Cay Resort Marina which is off of US1 at mile marker 61, Duck Key. Our rental rates are $30.00 per hour per board. $50.00 for a half day. (about 4 hours) $90.00 for a full day.

lisa asked :kiteboarding

Q: What is charge and how long is activity for

A: The beginner and intermediate lessons cost $300.00 each and they last 3 hours.

lisa asked :kiteboarding

Q: What age can you start?

A: There is no real age limit, it is more of a maturity level. Normally the younger the person, the longer it takes to learn kiteboarding. The longer it takes, the more money is spent taking lessons. A lot of places will give an age limit of 10 or 12 years old but that excludes kids that have an acceptable maturity level for kiteboarding. The youngest professional kiteboarder is 6 or 7 years old. We offer a one hour trainer kite lesson for young people to try out. If they like it and excel at trainer kite flying, then we would recommend a 3 hour beginner Kiteboarding lesson.

Q: is possibile kiting from the beach of the hotel or is necessary doing a lift with the boat thanks

A: We do not have a beach launch because we don't have a true beach on the island of Duck Key. It is necessary to take a boat to the riding areas around Duck Key. We have 360 degrees of rideable wind between all of our riding locations.

Kyle Hickman asked :kiteborading

Q: Hi Aaron, I just want to get an idea of how the lessons go, How long does it take to learn to fly the kite? also I have wakeboarded, waterski, snowboarded, etc. how long do you reasonably think it would take to get me (slightly above average athlete) up on a kite board? oh and i see it says 250 dollars per night, is that supposed to mean by day?

A: Hello, On the average it takes a 3 hour beginner lesson, that includes Ground School, to learn how to fly a leading edge inflatable kiteboarding kite. Now keep in mind that everybody's learning abilities are different. I have had a student riding up wind in 2 hours and have also had a student take 3 lessons just to learn how to fly the kite. Those are the extremes but the average is that at the very end of the beginner lesson, we try out the board to give you a taste of what the next lesson will be like. It is very hard to predict who will be above or below average. Certainly being comfortable in the water, having experience in water sports, and being patient, will help you excel. $250.00 a night is the starting price for room rates at Hawks Cay Resort and Marina, subject to change. If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to call or email Florida Keys Kiteboarding at 305-942-9635 and aaronosters@gmail.com .

If you are interested in purchasing a board, we will take the cost of a rental or a tour off the retail price of a new board. Our rates for our one hour instructional tour are $75.00 for one person and $50.00 for each additional person. Sherrie asked :SUP and age for kiteboarding

Q: Aaron - skipped Hawk's Cay last year to try out South Padre Island for some surfing - thinking of coming back this year - glad to see another activity! What is the min age for the kiteboarding? And see you mention the SUP but don't see anything - would love to try it - my sister just bought one and is loving it - but I am not brave enough to venture out with her in MD right now!! It is quite chilly out there - hoping for a little water temps down in the Keys! thanks-

Craig Mello asked :Kiteboarding at Hawks Kay 11/8-11/10

Q: Hi, I'll be at a meeting at the resort from the 7th to the 11th and would like to squeeze in some kiting. I'm thinking about leaving at mid day maybe two out of three days during the interval, starting on the 8th, wind permitting. How do I arrange this? Also what gear should I bring. I have my own Flysurfer 19sq/m speed 3 kite. Good for winds between 12 and 25. I also have smaller kites, but assume the big one is probably best for your conditions. I have a liquid force directional wave board too, that I like a lot, but not sure it will travel safely. Please advise on whether I need to book in advance, and what equipment I might want to bring. Best wishes, Craig

A: Hello Craig, Just give us a call, 305-942-9635 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting              305-942-9635      end_of_the_skype_highlighting, and we can arrange your kiteboarding at Hawks Cay Resort and Marina in the Florida Keys. We suggest you bring all the gear that you can travel with because as you know, if you leave your small kite at home, the winds will kick up!! Thank you, Aaron

rob ulrich asked :Kiteboarding

Q: I've never kite boarded but it has always fascinated me, I water ski , I snowboard (I used to snow ski) I am athletically inclined, as far as the way you instruct beginners, how long before I can expected to be able to get up on a board and go back and forth .

A: Everybody learns at a different pace. How long did it take you to learn to ride a bicycle compared to your friends, is a good way to look at it. We have had people take two lessons to learn how to fly the kite and we have had people riding upwind in two hours. The average person starts learning how to ride the board at the end of the first lesson. Certainly, experience in water sports, sport kite flying, and being comfortable in the water will help speed along the learning process.

Donna asked :Wind in early august

Q: we will be down from Aug 5-12th. My sons is 18 and is interested in learning how to kiteboard. How is the wind at this time and do we need to book before we come down.

A: I would definitly book before you come down to save your spot in the kiteboarding pogram. We usually know if there is going to be wind or not a week in advance. The wind starts to pick up in August and gets better each month through the winter and into spring.

Q: If there is no wind when I come down on my trip, do you also teach spearfishing?

A: I believe Dive Duck Key takes people out spearfishing and sells spearfishing gear at their shop on the dock at Hawks Cay Resort. You can check the Hawks Cay website for other fine activities that you can participate in if there is not enough wind to kite in. If you can't find what you need there please give me a ring and I will hook you up with the right person if I can't answer your questions or provide you with the gear and instruction you need. Have a great day!!!!! Call me any time. Aaron 305-942-9635 Stay tuned for stand up paddleboard tours at Hawks Cay Resort and Marina. Great for light wind days or a great work out on windy days.

Fernando asked :Winds in july

Q: Hi, nice to meet you. Im thinking to go to practice kitesurf in key west, and stay in the hotel, with my wife. I have to fly from argentina to miamo on july 9 ...the idea is to stay from 25 of july to 2 of august. Could you tell me if is there wind at this time to practice kitesurf ? Thanks in advance

A: July is one of the lighter wind months here in the Florida Keys. There is a possibiliy of having enough wind to kitesurf though. I would give it a 50/50 chance. Check out hawkscay.com for other activities to do during your stay if we have a day with no wind for kitesurfing. Thank you for your question and have a great day, Aaron
