Q: My wife and I are staying at Hawk's Cay Resort Friday, Saturday and Sunday night 2/25-2/27. We are interested in fishing flats or backcountry. I am an avid outdoorsman and a relatively serious fisherman and fly fish a fair amount. I like to spin fish as well and my wife is an above average spin fisher. We are interested in fishing for whatever is the best species at this time and would like your opinion on what you would recommend. A: mike, Thank you for the opportunity to take you and your wife fishing. The fishing this time of year can vary, depending on the weather. Generally we begin to experience some spring conditions that allow us to target the Tarpon,Bonefish and Permit. The conditions usually dictate the use of spinning or fly gear, knowing that neither of us want to deal with casting a fly into 20 kts of wind. Sometimes on full day trips we may run up into everglades national park to target Redfish,Snook,Trout,Tarpon and Sharks. Please feel free to call me anytime.
