Mason Rostad asked :Activities

Q: Is spearfishing allowed around this resort? And do you have someone who takes people out on spearfishing excursions?

A: Spearfishing is allowed in certain areas of the reef which is located just a few miles off shore. As far as spearfishing excursions you may want to contact Dive Duck Key (the dive shop at Hawks Cay Resort). You can reach them by calling the main line (305)743-7000 then asking for the Dive Shop. Hope this helps! Sundance WaterSports Crew :)

Fiona Fulford asked :Snorkelling

Q: we are staying at Hawk's Cay next easter and are interested in snorkelling. Does your trip go to the John Pennekamp reef? How long do you get in the water? Is it suitable/ safe for 9 and 11 year olds - they are reasonable swimmers? What happens if we book and weather is bad -do we get a refund please ? Thanks for your help

A: Hi! We actually go to a part of the reef called Coffins Patch, we go here because John Pennecamp Park is about a 3 hour boat ride from where we are located on Mile Marker 61, just north of Marathon. This reef is only about a 30 minute ride from our docks. It is a protected part of the reef, just like John Pennecamp, and it is fairly shallow, which is perfect for kids and guests who have never snorkeled before. We only go to this one spot so you will have approximately an hour and a half to snorkel, so you can go at your own pace. If the captain calls the trip due to bad weather, we do not charge, but it has to be captains call in order to not get charged the full price. Our number is 305 743 0145 if you have any questions or would like to book ahead! We look forward to hearing from you!

lisa asked :waterskiing

Q: What age can register for waterskiing? How much? How long lesson?

A: Unfortunately we do not have waterskiing any longer. What we do offer, though, can make up for that. We have our three seat waverunners, parasailing, snorkeling, segways, and kayaks, and for a relaxing evening, our sunset cruise. Call us at 305 743 0145 for reservations or questions! We look forward to hearing from you!

Ed Scalice asked :Snorkel and SNUBA reservations

Q: I have reservations for Aug 22-24 and would like to plan a snorkel and/or SNUBA excursion. Do you offer this through the resort, if not who do you recommend and should I get reservations.

A: Here at Sundance Watersports, we offer snorkel excurisions Sunday through Thursday at 1:00 pm, Friday and Saturday 9:00am and 1:00pm. To inquire about SNUBA please call Dive Duck Key at 305-289-4931. We suggest making reservations as soon as possible because the snorkel trip fills fast. Our number here at Sundance is 305-743-0145. We look froward to meeting you.

hannah23 asked :parasailing

Q: my sister and i were interested in parasailing during our stay at the resort, and we were wondering if we have to book a reservation for a ride if we wanted to go.

A: I would recommend booking once you have an idea of what day you would like to go. You can walk up if you would like, but it is not a guarantee that something will be available at that time. If you call to book a reservation we can guarantee you a spot! Give us a call at 305 743 0145!

nichole terry asked :Sunset Cruise

Q: Do we need to make a reservation for a Sunset Cruise? We will be there August 4th-9th. Thanks

A: You do need to make a reservation, and I recommend making a reservation once you get your schedule situated and you have an idea of the day you would like to go out. On average, most of the reservations come in the day before and the day of. The sooner you make the reservation, the better gaurantee you have for a spot. You can call us anytime between 8am and 5pm to make a reservation! The number is 305 743 0145

David Theriot asked :Snorkel Equipment

Q: Do you rent just snorkel equipment by the day or the week? If so, can you tell me the rate and if not, can you tell me if there is anywhere close to you that I can do that? Thanks and have a great weekend.

A: We only rent out our equipment if you rent out one of our water vessels. For example, if you rented one of our Grady Whites for a half day or full day we could include the gear with that, or if you rented one of our kayaks, we could include the gear with that. We would do the rentals then at $5 per set for the day or however long you did the vessel rental for. Dive Duck Key rents out equipment at any time, they're number is 305 289 4931.

Kelly asked :Snorkeling destinations

Q: I'm curious about the destination you travel to to snorkel?

A: We take our snorkel trips to a protected area of the reef called 'Coffin's Patch', or as some people call it, 'The Stake'. It's a good area to go because there is no anchoring on the reef, fishing on the reef, no touching the reef, and no taking anything from the reef, so it looks like it did 20 years ago. In the middle, where a large stake sticks out of the water, is only 6-7 feet deep, and gradually gets deeper as you get out to the ledge. There is an abundance of sealife out there, which makes it the ideal snorkel destination! Call us at 305 743 0145 to make a reservation!

lori asked :jet ski rental

Q: I read that if you are under 18 yrs old, you need to have a boat's safely card in order to rent.?

A: Actually, Florida State Law states if they are under 18, they must ride with an adult (someone 22 or older), no exceptions. In order for an 18-21 year old to rent a jet ski to take out on their own (without someone older than 22 riding along) they have to have a safe boaters card, which is very easy to get. If they have an adult on the jet ski with them, there is no need for the card. Read over the manual they provide online, take the test that comes with it, and print out the certificate they award you with at the end. If you have any questions about this or any of the other activities we offer, please call us at 305 743 0145!

LIsa asked :group snorkeling

Q: We just made our reservation for Christmastime. There are two families traveling together and I'm wondering how many people you can accommodate on a snorkle trip? We total 14 (15 if Grandma rides along). Thanks!

A: There is plenty of room on our 65 foot power catamaran to accomodate all of you. We accept up to 50 actually with one mate, and 75 with two mates. Make sure you call us ahead of time to make the reservations for your group. Our number is 305 743 0145, talk to you soon!

kris asked :snorkling

Q: How old do kids have to be to go snorkling?

A: We recommend a minimum age of 4 for most of our activities. If you have a child younger than that, and you think they will be able to handle a 3 1/2 hour trip, then as long as you're okay with it, we're okay with it. There is a liability waiver we have all guests sign, so you will just sign for them. You can give us a call as well at 305 743 0145 so someone can answer any other questions you have!

Sarah asked :Jetski boating certificate

Q: I will be in Hawks Cay for a week next summer and I have a valid New Jersey boating safety certificate. Are out of state certificates recognized in Florida? I am 18 and required to have a certificate to ride but do I need one specifically from Florida?

A: As long as you have one, it doesn't matter what state it is from. Make sure you bring it with you though because we do have to make a copy of it. Make sure you guys also call ahead of time to make reservations because we do fill up pretty quickly. See you next summer!!

Ray Cone asked :Hobie Catamaran Rentals

Q: Greetings- My extended family will be staying at Hawks Cay for a week beginning next week. There are a few of us who would like to find a place that rents Hobie catamarans...not the big ones, just the recreational models. Do you have any suggestions on where we might go for this in the area? I called yesterday and already know that you no longer provide these...any help is greatly appreciated. Ray Cone

A: If you look up Captain Hooks, Fish'n Fun and also Pier 68 online you will be able to find out more information about them. Captain Hooks and Pier 68 are the closest locations to Hawks Cay Resort and Fish'n Fun will deliver directly to you. Tom Coleman asked :Kaaking in hte Everglades

Q: There are no specifics about Kayaking on your website. We are interested in getting out in the evergaldes and wondered if you have guided trips/packages? We would be there on Sunday Oct. 30, 2011. Thanks

A: The everglades are actually up north of us in Southern Florida, but we have plenty of islands and mangroves to kayak around near Hawks Cay down here on Duck Key. Our kayaks are the one activity we offer here at Sundance Watersports that you take out and enjoy the scenery on your own. Just call us a little ahead of time and we can give you more details about pricing and the best times to come and enjoy them! Our number is 305 743 0145, give us a call!!! :)

Rinn asked :gear

Q: I was wondering how much it costs to go snorkeling plus renting gear per person.

A: The cost of snorkling with our gear is $44 plus tax. If you bring your own, it's $39, and if you have anyone who wants to go along but just wants to hang out with our crew on the boat, it is only $34. We provide cold water, but you are more than welcome to bring other drinks, food, snacks, and what not. Our number is 305 743 0145. You can call us anytime between 8am and 5pm with any questions you have and we will help you to the best of our knowledge!

Cathy Siminerio asked :Boat Rental

Q: Do you require a boating license to rent a boat?

A: You do not need a captain's license to rent a boat, we just need a valid driver's license and credit card to copy and keep on file. We do prefer that you have experience, but we have many employees here that can help you with any questions and concerns that you have. We also include a chart map in the box we give you to take on the boat. If you have any questions or concerns meanwhile, you can call us at 305 743 0145 and we will be more than happy to help you!

Minnesota asked :best time to travel to Hawks Cay

Q: We live in cold MN and would love to travel to the ocean as a family. What is the best time of year? Want it to be warm enough to swim and be in bathing suits and sunny.

A: The weather is pretty consistant down here with it getting hotter during the summer months and cooling off slightly during the winter months. The average temperature other than the summer months is usually mid 80s. Otherwise, anytime is a good time. Summer weekends are going to start being busy with kids being out of school and parents wanting to take weekend vacations. You can call the Hawks Cay main resort number at 305 743 7000 to find out more information about the best times to come visit!

elizabeth asked :snorkeling with a 5 year old

Q: Hi, we are planning a visit in June (husband, 9 year old and 5 year old.) Our 5 year old swims well with a swim vest. Would he be able to snorkle? I noticed that the water depth is 7-12 feet. Do you often have kids with safety vests snorkling on your snorkle trips?

A: He is absolutely able to come on the trip if you are okay with it. We provide vests and swim noodles as well and honestly, many different ages use both of those :) We also have different prices for anyone who wants to go along on the trip, but doesn't want to snorkel. Our number is 305 743 0145 if you have any questions about the trip or would like to go ahead and book it.

Andy Readman asked :WiFi

Q: Hi, Sadly I may have to do some work when I stay with you. Is the wireless internet free? Thanks Andy

A: Our watersports operates 365 days a year! State of Florida Law states that jetski riders be 18 years old with a boaters license or 22 without. There are no specific age restrictions for snorkeling, parasailing, kayaks, etc.

nikki hedges asked :watersports

Q: hi, we will be staying at Hawks cay for 5 days in August. do we have to pre book the water activities or can we just turn up and have a go??? thanks, Nikki.

A: Hi Nikki! Reservations for watersports are recommended, but you do not have to make them until you get down here. Boat rentals do go very quickly, but Jet Skis, Parasailing, Snorkel Trips, Segways, and the Sunset Cruise reservations can be made the day before or sometimes even the day of (although day of reservations are not recommended, though sometimes you can get lucky). Kayaks are first come first serve. If you have any questions please feel free to give us a call at 305-743-0145. Thanks Nikki, have a great day!

Colleen Keith asked :Snorking on catamaran

Q: We already have reservations at Hawks Cay from 7/20 to 7/25. What is the cost per person for the snorkling trip? we have 2 adults and 3 kids.

A: Hi Colleen!! We take everyone out snorkeling to the reef from 1-4pm. This time of year, we generally only have the 1-4 trip. Occassionally we'll have the 9-12 trip as well, but only if we have at least 10 or more people interested in going, and like I said, this time of year, it is difficult to generate that much iterest in both trips. But we always have the afternoon trip. We go out to a protected marina sanctuary, which takes about 30 minutes to get to, you get just under 2 hours in the water, and we're back at the dock by 4. Using your own gear, the cost is $39 before taxes, and $44 before taxes if you're using our gear. If you have any other questions feel free to give us a call at (305)743-0145. Thanks Colleen have a great day!

caron asked :snorkeling

Q: Is snorkeling available from the shore or is it necessary to take a boat to a reef?

A: Hi Caron! Technically, you can snorkel from the shore...you can snorkel anywhere! But you won't see much of anything right by the hotel. You will see some small fish, but no coral, and very few species. hardly any color. All the color is in the coral and the different species of fish, which one would have to go out a small ways to see. We take you to a marine sanctuary where one can't drop anchor or fish, leaving the sanctuary beautiful and undisturbed by humans. And the fist are used to seeing people so you can get right up on them! Hope this helps!

Monica Lane asked :Watersports

Q: If you are staying at Hawks Cay Resort, what type of watersports and prices do you offer?

A: hi Monica! We offer a variety of watersports, from snorkeling, Jet skiing, parasailing, boat rentals, and rod rentals, and even segways on land! All of our prices and activites are listed on Hawk's Cay's website under the experience menu, and they are also on the sundancewatersports.net website. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us! Looking forward to seeing you down here!

Beth asked :snorkeling

Q: is it possible to snorkel in the water right near the resort? thank you.

A: Hi Beth! It is definitely possible to snorkel right here...but there is not much to see right around here. There are some fish, but not much color, there is not a wide variety of fish, and no coral. In order to get the real snorkeling experience the Keys are famous for, we'd have to go out to a reef. We take our guests out to a reef about 30 minutes out (about 5 miles), generally to a reef called Coffins Patch which is a protected marine sanctuary, so no one can drop anchor or fish there which keeps the reef beautiful and the fish feel comfortable around people. It's a beautiful reef and our trip is from 1-4pm daily. Reservations are recommended, which you can make by phone or through the hotel. There is plenty of room on our 65' Catamaran and we have a 24 hour cancellation policy so you can make reservations when you get down here. We look forward to seeing you and taking you out snorkeling with us!! Sara (305) 743-0145

James asked :Jet Skiing

Q: My wife and I will be staying at your resort in July. If we wanted to jet ski for a day, wold we need to buy into that specific package or just rent them when we get there? Thank you

A: Hi James! We only do Jet Ski adventures here at Hawks Cay, and they go out for an hour at a time with a guide. we don't rent them out. In the state of FL, you have to be in the line of vision from the renter in order to rent a Jet Ski...which puts you in a VERY limited riding area. So we take you guys out all the way up to Marathon and cover about 15-25 miles (depending on the conditions of the day) and show you the fish, give you tons of free riding time, and basically just keep you safe from all the flats and sandbars in the water, "tour" is a really hard word to sell, but our guys know the local waters and are really just here to keep you safe. If you are interested, you can reserve with us at (305) 743-0145 or through the hotel when you get down here. If youre just dying to take them out on your own, I can give yu the number to a place in Marathon that will let you ride them on your own, but like I said, it will be in a very limited riding area. The place is called Tranquility Bay, and their number is (305) 289-0888. Hope this helps! Have a great day and hope to see ya'll soon! Sara Sundance Watersports

Anna asked :Jetskiing

Q: Is there an age requirement on jetskiing?

A: hi Anna! there is no requierement for RIDING or driving a jet Ski, however, there is an age requirement to rent one on your own. In order to rent one and drive it by yourself, one must be 18 with a safe boaters card which you can can on boatus.com for free (make sure its the one for the personal watercraft) or 22 without one. Hope you come down and play!

Carolyn Caplan asked :Watersports

Q: Can people who are not guests at Hawk's Cay make reservations for various watersports? I have a motel in Marathon and am updating my "things to do" brochure. Thanks, Carolyn Caplan

A: Absolutely!! We are open to everyone in the keys! Hope to see you soon!

alice asked :packages

Q: when you say watersports packages, does your price include all forms of water sports like parasailing, snorkeling, etc. and rooms?

A: no sir, the main hotel does the "packaging", and I believe they usually do the snorkel and stay package. Sometimes we have coupons for segways or some other things, which we throw on twitter...so look for our coupons there!

DIRK GRYSPEERDT asked :JETSKI

Q: We are in the hotel from 21 till 25th of july. I have two boys of 18, are they allowed to drive a jetski? Is it necassery to book in advance?

A: they are allowed to drive Jet Skis yes, but they have to get safe boaters cards. Safe boaters cards are free from Boatus.com, they take about 45 minutes to do...its a multiple choice test and make sure they get the one for the personal watercraft! print out the card and bring it to us, we will make a copy and their card will be good for them for the next 4 years in the state of FL! theyll love it! It is neccessary to book in advance. I reccommend at least a day...that time of year, maybe even 2. Looking forward to seeing you!

We leave the dock at 1 and are back at the dock by 4pm! Reservations can be made at (3045) 743-0145.

lori solo asked :para sailing

Q: I will be staying at the Hawkes for 2 days. I would love to parasail. What are the hours of opperation and fees for this?

A: Hi Lori, We offer parasailing on the hour starting at 9am. The cost is $139 for a tandem, where you sit side by side. To fly by yourself the cost is $79. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Tim asked :Snorkel trip?

Q: I'm coming down in a couple of weeks. We have a large group with lots of kids. We're thinking about doing your snorkeling trip. Can you tell me about the boat and the approximate depths of the reef?

A: Hi Tim! We offer great trips to the reef aboard our power catamran Blue. The boat is super kid friendly, as is our staff! It's a brand new boat so she's bright and beautiful. There is an underwater camera that projects up to a flat screen TV so you can sit onboard and see what's happening below. Blue also has walk down transoms for easy entry and exit from the water. We like to go to a marine santuary that's near Duck Key. That means you cannot fish or take any marine life from that area. Marine conservation is important to us. The water depth ranges from 7-12 feet, perfect for snorkeling and too shallow for a good dive site. Since we are the only snorkel boat within miles we are often the only boat there. Hope that helps and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Joan Walters asked :Segways

Q: I see from your webiste that you offer segway tours! We've done these in Rome and in California and they are soo much fun!! Can we arrange a private trip or do we have to go with a group. There are 4 of us, myself, husband and our kids 12 and 15. Look forward to hearing from you soon, we will be there next week :)

A: Joan, Segways RULE!! Glad you have experienced them all over the world...and yes, we would love to take your family on a private tour. Please call us at 305-743-0145 for arrangements since you will be here very soon.

jane brown asked :segway

Q: we will be part of an edward jones group. will you be offering a group rate or a discount on the segway tours to us? Also, how many segways per tour.

A: Hi Jane, Glad you will be joining. We are very much enjoying your collegues at Edward Jones who were here last week and this week. When you check in give us a call regarding a discount on segway tours for your group. We have 6 available for the tour and an additional segway for the guide. You can reach us at 305-743-0145 or from the hotel you can dial ext. 1925. Thanks, and we will see you soon!

Denise asked :Snorkeling

Q: Is there opportunity to snorkel onsite at Hawk's Cay Resort?

A: We offer fantastic trips to the reef aboard our power catamaran "Blue". Our reefs are located approx 4-5 miles offshore. One of the best reefs for snorkeling is in a marine sanctuary very close to Duck Key. It is a no take zone so many folks don't go because you can't fish or take lobster in that area. It is perfect for snorkeling and really too shallow for SCUBA diving because it is only 7-12 feet deep. We are often the only boat out there!

robslotkin@aol.com asked :prices

Q: Is anything that you offer in the way of recreation included in the price of the hotel room, or is it extra? For example, swim with dolphins, catamaran, jet skis, boat rental. If extra, what are the prices?

A: All the activities you mentioned are at an additional cost. The price for each activity is located on the website under the activity that you are interested in. I hope that helps, if not, let me know.

Kirk Smith asked :paddle boards

Q: do you have paddle boards available for rent? If so, how much?

A: Paddle boards are coming soon, but to my knowledge are not here yet. Aaron, with kiteboarding is going to be bringing those in so check for updates on the kiteboarding experience.

Tendo asked :Learn to Sail

Q: do you still offer the learn to sail program if we are staying at the resort? We are scheduled to be there in late April. thanks

A: The sailing school at Hawk's Cay closed last fall. There are many other activities we would love for you to experience with Sundance WaterSports!

ellen asked :is there a beach

Q:

A: There is no "beach" if you mean with rolling waves onshore. We do have a lagoon area that has a beach around it.
